One of the first death certificates that I obtained when I first began to research my family tree was that of my great-grandmother, Ruth (Carroll) Carr. Her father, as listed on the death certificate, was John Spurgeon. A bit of research indicated that his name was actually John Spurgeon Carroll. The lesson here is that [...]

I have been so busy at work that I missed the last Carnival of Genealogy, so I figured I’d better get something going right now for the next Carnival! The topic will be: If you could have dinner with four of your ancestors who would they be and why? What a great question! [...]

I have completed the Bennett family research (for now). I was able to document 9 generations, from my own granddaughter back to Joshua F Bennett, her 6th great-grandfather! I don’t have every document there is to have, and, in the interest of my sanity, I only researched 2 generations laterally. But certainly enough to establish [...]

I have finished up with Charles and his 3 wives. And he was only in his 40’s when he died! I didn’t really learn anything new about him, just got all the info and sources into my FTM.
Next I went up a generation to Joshua F Bennett, Charles’ grandfather. Not much info on him. Before [...]

Martha Alice and her husband William Henry Brown and their 4 daughters (including twins Nola and Ola!), are now officially part of my database, with sources, of course!
Only Charles A Bennett remains to be investigated and documented. He’ll probably require a bit more work, as I have already learned that he had 3 wifes!

Well, the remodeling of this blog is complete (for now!), so last night I jumped back into the purpose of this blog: genealogical research!

Mary Lavina (Mamie) Bennett, as my 2nd great-grandmother, [...]

A few days ago, I was reading a post on DearMYRTLE’s genealogy blog, and learned that FamilySearch.org has set up a site where you can view un-indexed genealogy records on microfilm. Only a few types of records are available now, as this is a test-site to evaluate, among other things, the image-viewer they plan [...]

For several days I didn’t do much but lay around and whine about the Texas heat… then I decided that was kinda silly, since my whining most probably wouldn’t change anything. So, I’m back into my research after my short “vacation”!
After emailing each other for several days, I haven’t heard a peep out of my [...]

I haven’t heard anything else from my new “cousin” in a couple of days, hopefully she’s just busy and will write back later. I got a lot of new info from her and some new insights into the Bennett family. The most exciting part was finding out that my grandmother Mamie Inez Carr’s flat fingertips [...]

My dad’s 2nd great-grandfather was James Bennett of San Saba, Texas. A few days ago, while searching online for information about one of James’ kids, Henry Clay Bennett, I came upon a posting on GenForum looking for info on Henry C. Bennett of San Saba! I emailed the lady and she wrote me back and [...]
